In early February, breaking news hit when the UK’s National Poisons Information Service (NPIS) announced that Annex VIII to the EU Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) has been adopted into the retained CLP in Great Britain. This adoption has a retroactive application date of January 1, 2021. This news has caused a whirlwind of confusion and questions, being that the UK had affirmed that Annex VIII would not be retained in the GB CLP.
Under the requirements of Annex VIII, companies placing mixtures on the GB market would be obligated to submit poison center notifications in the harmonized format dictated by this annex.
The NPIS website does not currently have any information posted on their website regarding this update. Additionally, the UK’s Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website, as well as the guidance on submitting chemical information to the NPIS from the Department of Health and Social Care found on the UK government website, have not yet been updated with this new information.
With no official announcements from the powers that be in the UK, many are uncertain on how to move forward. TotalSDS will continue to monitor for any updates to keep you informed. If you need help keeping up with changing regulations, get in touch with our team.
